To clarify my point in the last post, here’s one of my kudu shots from South Africa.

Taken in a temple in Vietienne, Laos, April 2011. This photo breaks so many photography rules (which I’m not going to go all geeky and bore you with, don’t worry) but I still love it. Perhaps because it breaks so many rules, ah what a rebel I am really :p

A monitor lizard just chilling on the banks of the river during our boat trip in Bangkok. These guys (and girls, presumably) would be sat literally right outside people’s homes- slightly different to the pheasants and foxes we occasionally see around here! What I like about this shot is the eye contact I managed with my reptilian friend; always a buzz when you manage that with wildlife.

This is one of my favourite photos, taken at the temple of the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok. I loved all the intricate details of the temples I saw throughout the Asia trip.

As promised, some of the wildlife from Kakadu National Park, Australia. Taken summer 2008. I particularly like the photo of the fish eagle perched in the tree.

But, were we seriously sleeping under canvas with so many things that could kill us creeping around? What were we thinking?

March 17th, 2011

Inspired by Kakadu’s ranking as the top wetland site in the world, according to BBC wildlife, I decided to post some of my own photos from when I visited this incredible place in the summer of 2008. Ironically, it was the dry season at the time but there were still plenty of waterfalls and lakes to swim in (we just had to watch out for crocodiles!). Whilst there our amazing guide, Dean showed us how to spot small creatures lurking in the bush and took us off to follow the sounds of dingos at night. We spent our days in, on and around the water and our nights camping in what I believe to be the darkest darkness I’ve ever experienced; it’s hard to explain how dense the surrounding black felt. We just huddled round the fire or curled up in our sleeping bags and experienced the sounds of the outback all around us.

Whilst, personally I believe my abilities as a photographer have improved since these images were taken, I like to think they still capture some of the breathtaking area we were waking up in each morning. As for our neighbors, the local wildlife, I will post some images of them soon.

Snowy scene in the grounds of Blenheim Palace. Walking around here then enjoying drinks by a fire and classic pub food was a perfect way to spend Boxing Day last year.

Temple of Poseidon,Greece by Jchip8

I know I probably post too many photos of sunsets but I was once told by a photographer that sunsets are one of the easiest subjects to impress with because everyone loves the colours and so the art is to make a sunset interesting- after all, haven’t we all seen many a photo of beautiful sunsets in our time? This photo actually has an additional element to it with the columns as it lends a particular setting. I for one, can actually imagine myself sat on the corner of those steps, watching the sun go down, in a moment of quiet reflection. Therefore, Jchip8 hasn’t just shown how beautiful a sunset is, but has captured a place to escape to.

The stunning Founders Building from my old university looking particularly gothic and dramatic. More images of this incredible structure, I was lucky enough to call home for a time, to follow soon :) x

I’ve just driven home from what was essentially a rubbish night at work- please excuse the in-eloquence of this statement, it’s late. Basically I left with resentment towards certain people and situations and then drove home on a cold, wet night. To lighten this mood, I decided to bring you some photos taken last summer, which illustrate the beauty of the sun shining in the British countryside. That, and I watched a little QI, always good for making you smile.

Anyway, hope this brings you some sunshine too.

Morning all, hope the world is treating you well and showing you lots of love. Today, I’m playing with time a little and, despite it being morning, I am bringing you a sunset- well, the sun is setting somewhere in the world and this is the World Wide Web. There you are, one tenuous link for you. Anyway, I took these photos a few weeks ago, running into a field with my dog and a little compact camera, still in my work uniform; what a sight it must have been! But this is the UK, after all and we don’t get such beautiful colours as these in our sunsets everyday.

So there you are, whatever time of day it actually is, enjoy the beautiful sunset :) x

Some more photos from Egypt, this time of the pyramids and surrounding artifacts at Saqqara (home of the oldest pyramids), Memphis (the ancient capital) and Giza. We were actually able to touch these magnificent structures; the last picture in the sequence shows how close we rode our camels to the wonders at Giza.

Reminds me of the breeding herd I saw in South Africa. They were amazing to watch, digging for water in the dried-up river bed. I didn’t manage to get one this close up though!
